Skykon Towers in Give is one of the leading suppliers of large welded steel constructions in the world. The company was founded - under the company name Welcon A/S - in 1968 in Brande, Denmark, by the Pedersen Family. At that time, the factory primarily concentrated on tanks and containers, and during the 1970s the business established a solid position for itself on the market.
When, towards the end of the 1970s, the first chapter was written in what went on to become a modern wind turbine fairytale, the Pedersen Family was quick to spot the opportunities in this new area. The company thus switched its focus from tanks and containers to the new industry, obtaining and maintaining the position of market leader – particularly with regard to the design and production of wind turbine towers.
In 2008, the company was purchased by the investment company EVO Energy A/S, and thus became part of the continuously developing Skykon Group.
In 2009, Skykon Towes in Give was joined by a strategically important sister company when EVO Energy A/S acquired Vestas’ tower factory in Campbeltown, Scotland. The company is now called Skykon Towers Ltd. and provides a wide range of opportunities for generating synergies for the benefit of our customers. These synergies appear in the form of increased purchasing power, mutual transfer of technology and know-how, and implementation of quality management systems such as Six Sigma, for example, as well as in areas such as R&D and logistics.
With regard to logistics, the relationship with Skykon Towers Ltd. opens up a number of unique opportunities because the Scottish facilities enjoy an ideal location close to a large, smoothly functioning harbour area. This means that we can supply towers for offshore turbines and deliver to markets outside Europe by sea, which helps customers to save both time and money.
